To aid identification of the nationality/origin of personnel and equipment, the UNMC uses the International Organisation for Standardization's ISO-3166-1 Alpha-2Country Code system. These two letter codes are used to represent each
country, for example "US" for the United States and "GB" for the United Kingdom, and as an example of use, these
codes appear at the beginning of the third line of text upon the MK2 "dog tags" as worn by all UNMC
personnel. As English is the default language of the Corps, the names of the 241 listed countries are expressed in their English format. Table 1 lists the states in alphabetical order, with their associated code letters to the right. Table 2, has the codes themselves listed alphabetically, each being followed by their associated country. Be aware that the civilan UN organisation, in addition uses both the numerical and three letter versions of the ISO-3166-1 Country Codes, however the decision has been made that the UNMC will exclusively use the two letter format, due to it's more widespread usage.
