Intelligence Summary: No information about world conditions or terrain. Mission to an enemy 'repair station' previously operated by TASC. Multiple contacts found and engaged, all appeared to be infected though not all reanimated upon 'death', possibly due to their physical connection to an unidentified machine. Multiple artifacts and prisoners retrieved to Porton Down for analysis. This target was again the subject of a raid some years later, see CON-52 "Operation Bannockburn" on 0305/2005. Planning began at CON-051 Conference#5 over the weekend of 02/05-06/2005. Plans of the base were not available at the time of the Stanford Bridge mission.
Maps were available at CON-051, images added here on 03/09/2007
After Action Reports:
Primary objective: Intelligence gathering, including video recon. To ascertain enemy activities, along with "repair station" function, layout and value. Secondary objective: Neutralise the "primary repair station", however recovery of intelligence, hardware and prisoners is to take priority over neutralisation operation.
The team was provided with a UV scanner, with instructions to scan all material and personnel. The team was also provided with a nuclear device to achieve the secondary mission objective. The operation of the device was explained, and the pre-set detonation time shown to 1700 hours, ten minutes after the projected exit time of 1650 hours.
SG-15, consisting of 4 personnel, entered the stargate at 1500 hours and were transported to a small dark room with two apparent exits. This is substantially different from previous reports of an open space approximately 10 meters square with no exits. One of the exits led to a large room, which was empty, the other led to a corridor. It should be noted that from this point on the entire mission was conducted in near total darkness, in an increasingly smoky atmosphere.
Upon exploring the corridor, we located a set of stairs leading down and an exit to an open area. To the left was an alcove with a desk and a computer, and a hostile who immediately opened fire. He was successfully neutralised, and the computer examined. It had no apparent markings and was not plugged in. There were no disks or easily removable material. Examination of the hostile with the UV scanner revealed he had had two parallel lines running up his left arm.
A further search of the area revealed several suspicious containers, which have been brought back for further examination, (see DSTL report) as well as a number of banana skins. A second open area was searched and a number of beacons recovered as well as a further container (see DSTL report). Another computer was found, again not connected, but next to it was a disembodied head in a jar. The containers and beacons were removed to the stargate area ready for transport home.
We then proceeded down the stairs to a small enclosed area with one exit and two rooms leading off. There were two further containers in the area, and bananas strewn over one of the rooms, the door of which had been left ajar. Further examination of the area was curtailed by hostile fire from the unexplored exit area, and several personnel suffered wounds. A fire-fight ensued, with a second hostile entering the area from the upper area via the stairs. It was decided to retreat back to the upper area of the base, having neutralised the hostile on the stairs.
While we were re-loading and assessing the wound status of the team, the hostile on the stairs re-animated and began to make his way towards us and the stargate. He was knocked out as he passed, and tied up, and when examined was found to have five stripes on his arm under the UV scanner. A second hostile entered via the stargate area and was killed, however he was subsequently identified as being the first hostile neutralised next to the computer, now re-animated. A third hostile appeared through the stargate and exited under fire via a door in the area we had not previously found. In the confusion, the tied up prisoner managed to escape and disappeared, however he then re-appeared via the stargate and was recaptured after being shot unconscious.
This second set of stairs led down to a basement area, but as we descended the stairs we came under heavy fire from below. A prolonged fire-fight ensued which resulted in the hostiles being neutralised and we were able to enter the area. Upon examining the area, there was a single large open area with a small room in one corner, where the fire had been coming from. Inside that room were several bodies with life beacons flashing, all apparently connected to a machine of some kind. None of these bodies re-animated, and they were all observed to have three stripes on their arms when examined with the UV scanner. One separate body by the door, which was not connected to the machine, re-animated and was put down by fire.
At this point it was decided that with ten minutes to go, to return to the stargate and prepare to leave. The nuclear device was brought to the area with the bodies and machine, and activated. When activated at 1641 hours, the display showed the detonation time as 1640 hours, not the 1700 which had been pre-set.
The device was turned off and re-activated, with the same result. We returned upstairs to the stargate area and collected the containers, beacons, and two prisoners (see DSTL report), and exited at 1650 hours. Upon arriving back at base the collected materials and prisoners were dispatched to the appropriate authorities for examination and interrogation. An examination of the nuclear device showed the pre-set detonation time had returned to 1700 hours.
Suspicions that the "repair station" was a biological rather than a mechanical facility were confirmed by the evidence of the monkeys, and the re-animation of the hostiles. Given further time and resources it would have been ideal to remove the computers and the head-in-a-jar, but this proved to be impossible with the number of objects and prisoners already retrieved. It would have also placed the team in additional danger when we had already sustained heavy casualties and were running low on ordnance.
A retrieval team be sent back to recover the "bodies" and the machinery they are connected to, for further examination at a secure location. The nuclear device be dismantled and decommissioned until such time a reason can be found for the inconsistent readings.
Report filed 20/12/99 by Sergeant Gill R. aka Mud Dog.
